Some seemingly summer and spring colours are standing their ground in winter interiors. Shades of pink, emerald green and navy blue look contemporary and cosy when used boldly. Bring quick colour in with a feature wall, throws, scatter cushions and ornaments. Painting a feature wall every season won’t take longer, nor cost more than buying a new scatter cushion.
Set a cosy mood
Soft lighting always feels warmer and more inviting than bright ceiling lights. Faceted hurricane lanterns with copper, gold or raw wooden frames make a statement. If candles are a hazard, try LED faerie lights for a quirky look. Votives also work well next to the bed, bath or on the dining table.
Intrigue with pattern
This winter pattern is still big and there is something to suit every style - inspired by exotic places from bold geometric tribal prints, intricate Moroccan tiles, to dainty Asian florals. Needless to say, timeless plaids made its annual winter comeback.
Pattern will add zest to any interior or dinner setting without changing the style permanently. Patterned crockery, rugs and accent pieces are at all the major décor stores this winter.
More Matte
The industrial look is still strong, but shiny surfaces make way for matte finishes - matte powder coating for metal lampshades and chairs, matte glazing for ceramics, raw concrete vases and matte walls created with chalk paint. This super matte look gives a designer earthiness to any furniture piece or décor item.
Earthy delight
Winter and wood are synonymous and a fool proof way to warm up any room. There’s no need to go for the complete log cabin style, but a couple of wooden furniture pieces, wooden vases or a chunky chopping board on a table, will do the trick. The raw wood look is still en vogue, so get out your sander and spend a day DIYing.
Neo Luxe
The countertrend for the serious matte look is the luxurious look. However, In 2016 there is nothing classical about metallics. Bold designs with contemporary lines catapult gold from its historical baroque chateau into trend setting homes. Gold and copper are the metallic colour of choice and add modern bling to wire baskets, cage like coffee tables and geometric side tables. These bling elements work well as accent colours together with charcoal and neutral backgrounds. Add faux fur for snuggling up on your coach and cocoon in style this winter.
