As we strive to make environmentally conscious decisions, and look for sustainable solutions, we become more aware of our own green future. What we don’t realise is that the colour green provides us with comfort due to its strong affinity to nature.
In the natural world around us, all tints and tones of green are in harmony, making green the perfect colour for decorating.
Green, the new neutral!
“In fact, green works so well in decorating it is considered by many to be the new neutral,” says Anne Roselt from Plascon.
The colour green is a great harmoniser and it soothes and calms, refreshes and restores. Depending on the shade, green can be used in any room in the house, but works particularly well in a relaxation room such as a bedroom, as it is cool and tranquil and brings a sense of balance into almost any colour scheme.
“In the bedroom, a dark green feature wall will give a very sophisticated look and with the right accessories and texture you can obtain a rich, decadent ambience,” she says.
For a slightly larger space use greens with a grey hue as you may grow tired of yellow greens very quickly. Soft grey greens work beautifully in a bedroom as these light tones provide a stress relieving retreat.
Playing with texture and design
Nothing in nature has flat colour, therefore use texture or design to create a natural effect. Decorate a room in one hue or various shades of one colour. If you add one or two splashes of colour, such as a complimentary colour to green or a different shade to the green you are using, you create an element of excitement that changes the balance of the room.
“Bear in mind, paint as wonderful as it is, still needs accessories to be added to create maximum visual impact, so be inspired by nature’s harmoniser and make your green bedroom your haven”, says Roselt.
