Washing with no electricity or water made me feel like a hunchback

accreditation
Well, our load shedding never follows the schedules, power is more in the way of Karate Kid’s “wax on, wax off” and at times every second house experiences load shedding.

Eskom’s brain shedding has nearly ruined meals but thanks to gas we survive.

The worse that we did have was when I was busy with a week’s worth of washing and suddenly the power went out.

Ok, no problem, we waited while I ate my way through some chocolate to relax my nerves.

After 4 hours with no power there was another surprise - no water.

The power outage had affected the water pumps, and when the power eventually came back on some 12 hours later, I couldn’t carry on washing as we didn’t have water.
Luckily my washing was in the rinse phase so all I had to do was squeeze out the water.

It didn’t look that difficult until I realised after trying to squeeze out a few shirts that I was not Super Woman and my back was not made for bending over the bath.

Suffice to say, mission accomplished with great difficulty and I made the Hunchback of Notre-Dame look like a runway model.

Think this is bad? Imagine finding a mushroom in your laundry bag because you couldn't wash it for months - all thanks to load shedding. Read more here.

Washing is one thing, running out of the shower in terror right into your in-laws is another. Read all about this crazy load shedding experience here.
