Research by the US Travel Association has found going away has a positive effect on health, relationships, work performance and wellbeing. Workers who take time off are more productive, have higher morale and are less likely to lose focus. They also report less stress. It also shows that a third of all holiday travellers have more sex while on holiday.

The end-of-year break can test a couple’s patience. Relationship expert Paula Quinsee shares tips on how to keep the romance alive on your vacation.

Spend time together:

One way to strengthen your relationship is to find 15 minutes a day to connect with each other, without any distractions. Commit this time to being fully focused on each other. It shouldn’t just happen on your holiday, but every day. You can use this time away to make a head start.

Build the intimacy:

Intimacy and sex are often confused as one and the same thing. Not so. Sex happens in the bedroom, while intimacy is more a sense of being close to your partner and realising the connection you have. Doing romantic things for each other can help foster a great connection between you two.

Get the best out of your relationship:

To do this, you need to put in the required energy and effort. It’s the little actions taken daily that, over time, have the biggest impact.

Go on a date:

It sounds easy, right? But we often get in a rut and forget to date each other. The holidays are great for dating. Head to your favourite restaurant and afterwards, take a walk. It’s romantic, and is a great chance to talk and cuddle up.
