No need to dumb yourself down to find love - men prefer educated Tinderellas, study says

Educated women welcome.
Educated women welcome.

Well it’s really not that hard to believe that a study found that men preferred to date women who are both younger and less educated than them, but it was quite disheartening.

Particularly for educated single women in their late twenties and up looking for love on dating sites.

The study, which was conducted by Elizabeth Buch, a sociology associate professor and lead author of the study, found that there was a steady decline in messages (advances, so to say) to women who were older than 25 and possessed an undergraduate degree on dating sites.

The reason for this according to psychologist, Michelle Drouin who had spoken to The New York Times, was because men were more attracted to women who were more family orientated.

In other words, someone who would pay more attention to the household than they would to work.

She did however also say that men could also be attracted to the visual appeal of younger women.

Something we don’t doubt one bit, men are after all referred to as visual creatures.

But now, a new study has found that men on popular dating site, Tinder, actually prefer women who are educated.

The study, which was conducted by researchers, Brecht Neyt, Sarah Vandenbulcke and Stijn Baart, focused on the results received from around 3,600 swipes received by 24 fake Tinder accounts which they created.

The Tinder profiles they created each had one of four different education levels, two of which were Master’s degrees while the remaining two were Bachelors.

All the profiles depicted people who were equally attractive.

The results of the study found that women did in fact prefer men who were educated while it didn’t find that there was a decrease in interest from men on women who were educated.

Meaning men were not shying away from swiping right on the Tinder profiles of the women who were highly educated.

The good news is that women (especially on dating sites) do not have to dumb themselves down in order to be perceived as more attractive.

Perhaps men have come to their senses and realised that pursuing women based on their education level, is not particularly a smart move, especially in the current economy where the more people who have jobs in a household, the better.

Or maybe they’re finally getting with the program.
