Turns out the wedding was never registered!

Miryam Fernandez, the unfortunate bride, discovered the registrar who was responsible for completing the paperwork after the ceremony on 3 August 2013 failed to do so, and has since died.

The angry couple had to accept that their wedding, which took place in the province of Salamanca in western Spain, never happened in the eyes of the law.

“It looks like a joke. It’s surreal,” Miryam told local media.

Local authorities have invited the couple, who now have two kids aged five and 11 months, to get married again but they’re refusing to repeat the process, arguing the paperwork should simply be completed.

Miryam says council wants her to bring the witnesses to re-enact their wedding but she says after six years she doesn’t want to trouble them again.

Her husband and two children, whose identities haven’t been revealed, are now waiting with Miryam for the council to come up with a solution and to apologise to them.
