A study conducted by Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, made use of data collected from 5,327 adults, of which 2,991 were women, between the ages of 18 and 94 years old and found that "emoji use with potential partners is associated with maintaining connection beyond the first date, and more romantic and sexual interactions over the previous year".
Simply put, the use of emoji's in texts to people you are attracted to, helps grow or build a stronger connection with increased the likelihood of going on dates and subsequently, having sex.
People who reported less usage of emojis in texts to people they were interested in, on the contrary, had less chance of getting a date.

"We can't say that using emojis more frequently causes more dating and sexual 'success,' but it is likely that people who use emojis more often are more emotionally expressive, and emotionally intelligent, a skill that tends to be important in forming satisfying relationships," says Amanda Gesselman, one of the authors of the study.
