Dry sex – what are the causes and treatments?

Sponsored article Sponsored article

During sexual stimulation, a woman’s body produces natural lubrication to ease friction and enhance pleasurable sensation. This lubrication is produced by the vaginal walls (for internal lubrication) and the vaginal glands located next to the labia (for external lubrication).

A well-lubricated vagina is needed for painless and enjoyable sex – for both partners.

What causes vaginal dryness?

Sometimes the natural lubrication process needs a bit of help. A woman’s vagina can remain dry for a variety of reasons. Lack of arousal, not enough foreplay, stress, depression, anxiety, certain medication, ageing and menopause can all contribute to a dry vagina.

The hormone estrogen plays an important part in the production of vaginal lubrication and things that affect estrogen levels include menopause, chemotherapy, hysterectomies, childbirth, breastfeeding and certain medicines.

Things like douching, and interference with the natural pH levels of the vagina can also contribute to vaginal dryness.

The side effects of dry sex

Having sex when the vagina isn’t properly lubricated can cause a lot of problems. Common side-effects include painful intercourse, itching, burning and yeast infections. The labia minora can become swollen and painful and orgasm is unlikely to be achieved. A more serious side-effect is that dry sex increases your chances to contract sexually transmitted diseases substantially. This is because intercourse can make small tears in the vaginal wall and the foreskin if there isn’t enough lubrication.

How to treat vaginal dryness

Luckily there are products available on the market which have very effective results and are perfectly safe to use. Evarmiles Gel is a clinically tested sexual stimulant that also enhances a woman’s natural lubrication for a more pleasurable sexual experience. Say goodbye to dry, painful sex forever.
