Religious fervour has never been this saucy.
Crystal Dean of Old Town Spring in Houston, US, hosts a Pole Fitness for Jesus class every second Sunday, where she teaches women ‘to feel good about themselves and feel empowered’.
It’s a ‘ladies-only’ class and hopefuls have to bring their Sunday church programme to gain entrance.
Donning some serious heels and twirling booty to upbeat contemporary Christian rock, Crystal assures her outraged fellow believers that she’s not teaching people how to be strippers, merely how to worship their god-given temple with dance. And a pole. And stripper shoes. And some spandex and boob tubes. Whatevs. All in the name of etc etc.
Me? I think this is awesome, we should be able to praise whoever and enjoy our bodies in whichever way makes us feel awesome. I’m just saying I’m seeing an entrepreneurial opportunity here with new plastic, glitterati armbands emblazened with ‘WWMMD’ – What Would Mary Magdalene Do.
