How to properly explore BDSM

accreditation
We are very grateful that EL James and her 50 Shades of Grey trilogy got us women chatting more freely about sex in general and that they have made us much more open to the many delightful “add-ons” that definitely spice up ones sex lives and contribute to variety in the bedroom. However, there are some of Christian and Anna’s antics that we don’t recommend you try at home without getting to know a little more about their important features, real purpose and how best to use them.

#1 Kegels of “Steele”
Take Ben-wa balls for instance. We need to start with larger, lighter balls and then slowly move on to heavier, smaller ones as our Kegel muscles strengthen, unlike Ana who goes straight for heavy metal. Even without having had babies, if your pelvic floor is not well toned and strong enough, the metal balls will burst forth onto the scene, much as the music genre did in the late 1960’s, when it’s least convenient and more than a little embarrassing.

#2 Foreplay for the brain
Secondly the purpose of Ben-wa balls is to firm up those vaginal muscles because, like all the muscles in our body we feel and function better when these are in optimum shape. The tighter they are, the more able they are to contract and the more they will intensify sexual pleasure for both parties during intercourse. But an instant aphrodisiac, that will make you hungry for sex all the time as Ana claims, they are not. When they are in situ, they do have some fantasy value on the brain which we agree is our biggest sex muscle, but this is certainly not their primary function.

#3 A 50 Shades no no
Then, when Christian pushes the cold plug slowly into Ana she finds this heavy and strange. Butt plugs should never be made from something heavy like steel. A nice pliable material like silicone is far more suitable. The anal area is very delicate and these exciting unisex toys can do major damage if they are abrasive or used irresponsibly. The area and plug should always be well lubricated with a lubricant like Nature Fresh Fragrance Free before it is slowly and gently inserted and the recipient must feel free to say stop if the sensation is not completely pleasurable.

#4 Keeping pH balanced
Also one must never share any sex toys that are inserted in to any part of the body with another person and unlike Ana, one must not clean them with ordinary soap and water. It is definitely better to invest in a pH balanced product like Nature Fresh Tea Tree Cleanser made for this purpose that is more hygienic and will help guard against yeast and other infections.

#5 BDSM for beginners

Last but not least, no one should be thrown in to the world of BDSM without careful discussion and preparation. In their purist forms all aspects of this type of sex play should only be practised by couples who both have an in- depth insight and understanding of what they are all about. But even those who are just wanting to dabble on the fringes of power-play, sado-masochism or bondage and restraint, need to know the rules and agree things in advance through clear, intimate communication. Ana was often unaware of what was going to happen next; this flies directly in the face of creating an atmosphere of complete trust which is the absolute main ingredient is BDSM play. Only shared conversation and negotiation can result in the special bond and strong emotional connection that is necessary if this is to be the ultimate loving, nurturing and intimate form of human contact that many will say it can be.
