3 ways to beat the bloat

accreditation

We all know that relieving our bowel is a necessary and healthy part of life. Not only is it a natural way of getting rid of toxins, but it also prevents that swollen, bloated feeling.

Everyone does it. The Queen of England, tat' uMandela… even Oprah Winfrey has her fair share of toilet breaks.

It's embarrassing...

Ever received a call while sitting on the toilet? Many people say they would never admit to what they're really doing because it's too embarrassing – I say what nonsense is that? It's not surprising then, that you're feeling so constipated…

But, humour aside, follow these useful tips, go to the loo, and beat constipation:

Eat fibre:
I know, the word fibre scares many people. You start thinking that you'll have to eat like a rabbit and that your plate will be filled with nothing but plants and fruit. Relax, healthy foods deliver great results and the bonus is that they taste delicious too. Learn more about the benefits of fibre here.

Drink Liquids:
Drink a minimum of six glasses of water. Liquids add fluid to the colon and bulk to stools, making bowel movements softer and easier to pass. People who have problems with constipation should try to drink liquids every day but liquids that contain caffeine, such as coffee and soft drinks will only aggravate your constipation. Alcohol is another no-no. It is important to drink fluids that hydrate – not DE-hydrate the body.

Exercise:
I am sure we all know the importance of exercising, but you probably did not know that it's one of the remedies of constipation. Go for brisk walks, cycle, swim or do aerobics to get the system going. If you're the lazy type and have already told yourself that you won't be able to do it on your own, then consider doing it with a friend. Surrounding yourself with people who are health-conscious will help you feel eager to do something about your health. Try it, it can be fun.

Come on, people. As kids, our parents took the time to teach us to say when we needed to have a poop. However, now that we're older and don't need any help getting our undies down, we are too embarrassed to say that we are human. The world is a funny place.

Bowel movements are healthy. Go on, the potty is waiting for you…
