Fitness tips to finish the year strong

End-of-year fatigue is real and maintaining healthy habits at this time of the year can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. It’s never too late to regain your power and get back on track with your wellness goals.

Juanita Khumalo has formed a phenomenal business around fitness and wellness based on her victory with weight loss. Trove Wellness offers women a sense of belonging to a community and an accountability friend on their journey to be healthier and be better versions of themselves.

Below is advice from Juanita on how to end the year being  mentally and physically stronger:

Get more sleep

Don’t underestimate the importance of good-quality sleep. Lack of sleep is a contributing factor to obesity and weight gain. It can also cause insulin resistance which will affect your weight loss progress, reduce your daily mental and physical performance, and affect your appetite.

Pack your own lunch

As tedious and “uncool” as it may sound, meal preparation plays a fundamental role when it comes to sticking to your diet and reaching your fitness goals.

Eat nutrient-dense food

Eighty percent of keeping healthy is mainly diet-related. Minimise your intake of processed food and increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and protein. This will keep you fuller for longer. Below are examples of food from each macronutrient which are an absolute staple in my diet:

PROTEIN: Chicken breast, fish, chicken livers, tuna and eggs.

CARBS: Oats, brown rice, quinoa and whole-grain bread.

FATS: Almond nuts, avocado and various seeds (for example, chia seeds and flax seeds).

Practise meditation before sleeping

Meditation will help reduce your stress levels. It promotes better sleep and helps manage mental illness such as depression and anxiety.

Get an accountability buddy

An accountability buddy is someone that helps you commit to your fitness and wellness goals and motivates you to keep going when you are not in the right frame of mind. It’s important to surround yourself with positive people as they influence your mindset and determination
