Social media isn’t just about casual posting anymore, now people use social media to push their own agendas and Kalawa Jazmee singer Khanyisa Mbuthu is no different.

The member of the Iziqhaza duo uses her hilarious celebrity remake pictures to spread a positive message. Whether it’s imitating some of Khanyi Mbau’s swimsuit images to recreating Bonang’s poses, the images get people talking.

“It all started when I noticed that whenever I posted something that showed my skin or when other thicker women did it, there would always be someone who commented we should cover up,” she explained.

“When you are big such things are not accepted. But because I love modelling and the runway I decided to just do the poses that smaller celebrities did just to push the standards of society.

“I’ve always been big and I want to wear swimsuits, but what should I do? Since a thick woman rarely gets featured in a magazine I decided to start my own trend,” the bubbly singer says.

Khanyisa is passionate about body positivity and says she’d expected a lot of negativity from the public, but to her surprise people supported her.

“I was anticipating a lot of negative comments but to my surprise most people were actually warming up to the idea and were okay about it.”

How does she decide which celebrity’s picture to remake? Khanyisa said she chooses images of women who are prominent and who get a lot of likes online and also have the same values as her.

Outside of music, Khanyisa is also a professional midwife and a mother and says juggling music and her demanding career is hectic.

“It’s not easy being a midwife, a mother and an entertainer but it is also not impossible to do when you know what you want and exactly where you are going.”
