According to Parents.com, women have also used the tampon and sanitary pads alternative to speed up the process of getting pregnant.

The site reports that couples who are trying to conceive use two methods to achieve conceiving through menstrual cups:

1. The male partner ‘pulls out’ after sex and then ejaculates inside the menstrual cup before it is inserted into the female partner’s vagina

2. After sex, a woman inserts the menstrual cup into the vagina immediately so that the sperm can stay in place

Speaking to the publication, Dr Sherry Ross, author of ‘She-ology the definitive guide to women’s intimate health. period’, said that “the longer the sperm hangs out at the cervix and the entrance to the uterus, the better chance it has at swimming up into the fallopian tube to fertilise the egg."

“A menstrual cup full of sperm allows the sperm to only move in only one direction and that is towards the egg," she added.

We Have Kids.com explains that sperm can live up to as long as 12 hours in a woman’s body and with the aid of a menstrual cup, these sperm are not likely to die within that 12 hours as they have not been exposed to air, making it faster and healthier to conceive.

DRUM contacted gynecologist Dr Conrad Daniel Mashiloane who said he would not be able to comment as he was not yet familiar with the procedure.
