It’s a weekly subscription service which delivers fresh, raw ingredients and recipe cards for a set menu of delicious dishes that take no longer than 30 minutes to prepare.
“We're not chefs or foodies,” says co-founder Diane de Villiers. “We were just so frustrated with the last-minute dash around the crowded supermarket after work and bored with the same old meals and sad take-outs every week that we decided to do something about it and so we created Daily Dish.
Now it’s such a joy knowing that I have amazing fresh food always on hand and am just 30 minutes away from putting something tasty on the table. I don’t have to think about food or menu plans and best of all, I don’t have to shop!”
Daily Dish focuses on finding the best quality raw ingredients at the best price. They openly share who they buy ingredients from on their website. Vendors include Woolworths, Bill Riley Meat, Foodlovers Market and Asian Spice Supermarket.
“I know how fussy I am about food,” says de Villiers. “I want to know where my meat comes from. I want to be sure that the chicken is free range and the fish is on the SASSI green list. I also prefer that fresh produce is purchased from local growers where possible.”
The dishes are designed to be tasty, to be cooked in less than 30 minutes and budgeted at R42 per meal. The service currently provides four meals for four people every week. There is a set menu consisting of one red meat dish, one chicken dish, one fish dish and one vegetarian dish.
The menu changes every week so subscribers never get bored with the same dishes. Exact quantities of all the ingredients required for each dish and the recipes cards are delivered to subscribers at home or at work every Monday.
The Daily Dish supper service is a subscription service. “We’ve made it really easy to start and stop the service,” says co-founder Jo-Pierre Lerm. “Anyone interested in the service simply registers and pays online on our secure website.
If they want to interrupt the service for a while, for whatever reason, they simply click on a “pause” button on the site and the service will stop immediately. This puts managing the subscription 100% in the subscriber’s hands.”
The Daily Dish currently delivers in the greater Cape Town area: City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs and Milnerton.
