Alejandra Mace never had an issue with her weight growing up – she only weighed 44 kg on her wedding day when she was 25.

But when her relationship with her husband turned sour, the 39-year-old from Florida in the US, started grabbing takeaways more often and would regularly snack on junk food. This resulted in her reaching her peak weight of 60 kg.

“I blamed it to eating out often, but I realise now that living in an unhealthy relationship could have caused my sudden weight gain,” says Alejandra.

Alejandra and her husband tried working on their relationship for two years but she later discovered that her he didn’t love her anymore.

“I was lost, the whole situation was so painful; I was in denial. I didn’t feel anything,” she says.

In 2015, she called it quits on her marriage. Trying to process her divorce, Alejandra channeled her feelings at the gym and ‘found’ herself one rep at a time.

“I cried for months, the pain was out of this world,” she admitted. “After eight months of pure hellish pain, I decided to channel all my sorrow at the gym.”

It led to an amazing transformation which saw her trim down to 50 kg – and brunette beauty has maintained her weight since.

Alejandra now eats healthy food 24/7 and goes to the gym six days a week – whether she’s sick or not.

“I make time for my daily gym session; my self-esteem has grown and I became mentally stronger,” she says.

Although she’s made a giant leap in her recovery and states that she is happy, Alejandra says she is still working on healing herself.

“I’ve worked hard to get out of the dark tunnel I was in. I have learned many things; including the difference between a healthy and unhealthy relationship.

“Setting boundaries and demanding respect are one of the valuable lessons I've learned through my healing journey,” she says.

Alejandro is now determined to become a personal trainer to help men and women become the healthiest version of themselves.
