Despite the numerous films, documentaries and organisations fighting to stop it, FGM is still happening all over the world (over 125 million women have been butchered, according to the World Health Organisation) and is still commonly overlooked by most of the powers that be.

This is not an article to make you feel guilty. Let’s face it, there are so many terrible things happening in the world today, it is impossible to keep track of all of them. But it does raise an interesting point: do we tend to ignore the things that we do not face directly?
