Things we should stop doing

accreditation
They say, “time flies when you’re having fun”, but as one gets older, we become almost obsessed with distant memories instead of making new ones.

We tell our children how things were when we were their age, how safe it was compared to today. Little things like playing “claylat” in the veld with my friends still remains fresh in my mind.  I, for one, get excited when I talk about the olden days.

It’s a miracle that I survived past my teenage years. It’s a miracle my parents loved me, despite all the grey hairs and wrinkles they inherited from me. It’s time to add some spice to my life. But, I ask myself, where to begin?

Playing “claylat” in the veld is out, egg-washing the neighbour’s front door could land me in jail, and, let’s face it, I’m definitely too old to swim across the Hippo invested Blyde River near Hoedspruit once again.

Maybe it’s time for me to compile a “Stop-list”. It will be a list of things I need to stop doing so that I will have more time to compile a 2015 Bucket-list of the things I want to do. For starters, here are a few thoughts.

1.       I should stop leaving for work way too early just because I might be stuck in traffic one day and be late for work.
2.       I should stop thinking about what I’m going to prepare for dinner during breakfast.
3.       I should stop worrying about what the future has in store for me. (I’m as prepared as can be, anything else is over-kill)
4.       I should stop worrying about the things I cannot change.
5.       I should just stop.
6.       I should definitely stop doing this list!

I could go on with this list forever, but there are less than 70 days left of this year. I’ve already accomplished No. 5 on the list above, which leaves me with some spare time. With my kids going on a weekend vacation soon, maybe it’s time for me to test unfamiliar water and just take a break…a break from everything, and slow down time. A canopy tour sounds cool, or a microlight flight at Hartebeespoort dam, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll have something to remember 2015 by.
