The Muslim world is in crisis

My Facebook news feed is flooded with images of wailing mothers and dead children of Gaza.

One cannot look at the pictures coming out of Gaza, and not be affected as a human being at the very least.

The infants and toddlers riddled with shrapnel, severed limbs, lifeless bodies shrouded for burial.

We have replaced our facebook, bbm and whatsapp display pics with Free Palestinian Flags or Save Gaza slogans.

I am totally against murdering, maiming anyone of any religion, race or nationality. No one is racially superior to anyone.

I detest it when people give me the look when my opinion differs or when I do not share the same comments which blasts the “enemy”.

However my stance of Free Palestine does not mean destroy Israel.

With that being said I reserve the right to write and share my thoughts/opinions.

I am Muslim, but I am not anti Semitic, anti Jew, I do not think I am racially superior to anyone; I will not apologize for my humanitarian stance on Palestine.

I have close Jewish friends; my humanness comes through irrespective what religion you follow.

We have marched all over SA, we have called for boycotts of several retailers, we have shown that we can rally together against Israel but here is where my red flags go up.

The crisis in Israel and Gaza, the attachment to that land has made it impossible for Muslims and Jews to negotiate like rational human beings, will it ever be possible for them to live in peace?

I don’t think Hamas is doing what its supposed to for its people. I think they want this region to collapse into total chaos.

When I do a 360 look at other countries, I ask how is it we fly under the radar with our criticism of other countries and their treatment of Muslims?

What about Syria, Iraq, China, Burma, which endorses racism?

When will we boycott their products, when will we march to their embassies?

Why do we choose to turn a blind eye against those countries, whilst they get away with exactly what we are highlighting in Israel?

What about Iraq and Syria-based Sunni militant group ISIS’s massacre of minority Shias and Christians in Iraq?

We as Muslims have some serious introspective questions which need to be answered.

We are crying “death of humanity” over Israel’s onslaught yet there is a deafening silence over ISIS’s barbarism. ISIS has shown us the ugly side of mistreatment of minorities, a group which declares a so-called Islamic caliphate and then massacres innocents.

We as Muslims believe in the concept of Ummah (the whole community of Muslims bound together by ties of religion), brotherhood and fraternity.

If a fellow Muslim is hurt in Syria, then it should affect a Muslim living in India or Australia, but this concept should also work the other way too.

If your brother does wrong unto someone else, should you not stand up against him?

Where are our street protests condemning the ISIS, why have we not shared pictures on our Facebook pages in solidarity with the victims of ISIS’s terror?

We protested against Boko Haram, a watered down version of the Israeli protests. Their evil act of kidnapping of school girls should have us screaming out.

We talk so boldly about racism. This is another worrying issue; Arab Muslims are seen as some kind of a special race, yes Islam originated in Arabia, but our religion is egalitarian.

Muslims are being massacred in Central African Republic, do we care?

Yes they are black; is this the reason why we don’t care?

Muslims are being discriminated against in Myanmar. What have we done about it?

The anger we project towards Iraq, Syria or Myanmar is completely diluted when project against Israel and America.

Again I am not pro-America, nor am I pro-Israel. Maybe I am just pro-HUMAN!

For me it seems obvious and undeniable that our moral compass needs to be checked. Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern countries who can do something about our peoples’ plight, are too scared.

There’s too much at stake for them, so they safely pledge humanitarian assistance and give millions of dollars to the UN to fight terrorism, and that's considered helping.

What do groups like ISIS, al-Qaeda and even Hamas want?

Do they have the interests of the people at heart, their welfare and safety?

Or is it just the powers in play and the suffering of innocents whilst all these games go on?

Are they trying to solve conflicts and fight for the people or create more disharmony?

There are some Muslims who have blown themselves up in crowds of children. Our own muslim children most times, just to get at the American soldier who was handing out sweets to them.

This kind of confusion puts all of us in danger. What message are we as Muslims sending out?

For the rest of our lives, and the lives of our children, we are going to be confronted by people who don’t want to live peacefully, they want a quick ticket into paradise, they are willing to destroy humanity along the way.
