accreditation

In response to a competition our readers share their greatest memory of their father.

My fondest memories are of my dad taking me and my sister on classic car races and rallys we got to spend time with dad and we were super proud of him when he received trophies .We also got to seen places like Lesotho and Mozambique in the 70's when life was more carefree. - Brenda Fernandes

My favourite memory with my dad is hard, because there are too many. One of my favourites must be when he would bring me snacks in the middle of the night at campus, because I was working late and could not come home. – S. Patel

The greatest moment with my dad was when I just received my matric results; He surprisingly took me to shopping and told me how proud he was of me. – G Matlejoane

My best memory is my father jumping into a pool after I fell into the deep side and I couldn't swim. He saved me and he is not the best swimmer himself. That's when he became my hero.

I was 7-years-old, before that Lionel, the cat on The Thunder Cats was my hero.  Thanks dad, I have much more great memories, but that's my hero moment.
– Brandon Booysen

My greatest memory with my father is me going with him to the horse racing tracks every weekend and me making the bets for him. I chose a winning horse the one day and he got me a bicycle and he took me to have lunch at McDonalds. I think I was 9 or 10 and it was the best memory I have with him. - Jade Abbott

My greatest memory of my dad is when he taught me to ride my bike at the park. – Nicole Otto

My favourite memory with my dad was when I was growing up in Amamzimtoti in Durban. He would take me to the beach in the early hours of the morning to go fishing. We would then come home and clean the fish and have a delicious brunch of fresh fish together as a family.

Those days will live with me forever and I wish I could share something like that with my kids. – Mandy Fernandes

My greatest memory of my Dad is when I was a child, Every Saturday he would put me on his shoulders take me to the local tea room, as it was called those days, down the street and buy me a Lucky Packet that was filled with sweets and toys, and a pack of chicklets.

Of course this was in the 80's, today's kids don't know what's a lucky packet or that chicklets gum even existed. Or that the corner shop was called a tea room!

It's my fondest memory as it was my time with dad alone! – Melinda Hamiel
