This is why dogs would make better people

My son is now 20, for as long as I can remember, he’s always wanted a pup. We could not ever realise his dream as we always lived in places which did not allow pets.

Until a month ago, this dream was realised. With me, dogs were nice from far, admired them in pet shops or at friends/families places. I always said I am not a “dog person”, you won’t find me whispering to any dog until “Zeus” came into my life.

They say a man’s best friend is a dog. I have grown attached to this little pup, who is always ecstatic to see me, wags his tail with happiness, and never grumbles about anything, always patient for food, just a happy and chappy dog.

It got me thinking, why are animals always beautiful and people can be so ugly?

Maybe it’s in our nature, our attitudes, our way of life; our mind-sets. Some people just don’t care enough about other peoples’ feelings. Some people have given up on everything and just want to make everyone around them as miserable as them.

Animals don’t really go through heartache like we do. They don’t experience as much as humans.

They don’t get betrayed, hurt; no broken promises or lied to. Even If they never find "the one", it doesn’t bother them, as long as they have an owner who cares and loves them.

They are content they have their "fun" but it’s usually to mate. They kill because they have to, for food.

Humans have taken sex to another level completely, we have murderers and thieves killing and stealing just for fun. Animals are only cruel when they have to be. We are cruel because we choose to be. That makes us ugly and mean.

Recently I've encountered several mean people, I've had to remind myself not to become like them, we have to find ways of surviving these experiences.

Meanness emerges when the person believes they have power over you, we become passive receptors of life's impulses; so if you are seen as an easy target, a mean person will take full advantage of this weakness.

Yes, I am not exempt. Sometimes I do retaliate when people are nasty to me, because I do get tired of lying down quietly to display the word welcome! on my back.

Then you get those who are just born mean, like the movie “Mean Girls”, they just hate everyone and will use any opportunity they get to get under your skin.

I saw a T-shirt that said "mean people suck," I thought, Now, there is a heartfelt sentiment.

Why are people mean? They're hurt. At some point, somebody—their parents, their partners, children or boss, someone did them wrong. They were crushed.

So they're still afraid the pain will never stop or that it will happen again; as a defence mechanism they resort to being mean, to show they are powerful. I've probably described many people on planet Earth.

As for the remainder of us, we’ve been hurt, and wounded, but not all of us are mean.

Why not? Because some people realize that their history of suffering has to stop somewhere.

If we react to this type of meanness with cruelty of our own, we climb onto the merry-go-round suffering. You're mean to me so I'm mean to you so you're meaner to me so I'm meaner to you....

We'll stay on this sickening merry-go-round until we decide to get off. Mean people live small, think small, and feel small—the smaller, the meaner.

If you don't take the power back from them, you are basically signing over all your emotions, thoughts feelings sleep hours all to them.

Do you want a mean person to be like a monkey on your back all day?

That should give you the motivation to block them out. Mean people suck.

We find Inner peace when we respond to cruelty; by not retaliating - our own and other people's—with putting the squash racket down instead of hitting back.
