Right on the heels of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup that saw the U.S. team taking home the trophy, the founder of young women's online community Gurls Talk Adwoa Aboah and Nike have come together on a collaboration that celebrates girls who may one day compete in future FIFA World Cup tournament.
With a 42-minute documentary film by Felix Cooper titled "Spit Fire, Dream Higher", the collaboration aims to demonstrate the value of football as a force of empowerment for young women.

Adwoa, who is not only an award-winning supermodel but a pro-footballer too, is the narrator of the documentary film and together with Nike athlete and PSG striker Nadia Nadim, they visit several fearless young girls in their hometowns around the world and discuss how football has had a positive impact on their lives.
"On this journey, we saw girls from around the world who have fought through oppression and continue to be resilient through their love for football," says the Gurls Talk founder.
This is evident from the very first few seconds of the doccie, where a young girl opens with the following heartwarming words:
"Baba God, I thank you because when I think of where I came from; no shoes, no shirt, no cash and no income. The friends I started with, they gave it up and I lost some. Poor home. I took my destiny and it was awesome. I gave it all up for this football."
And from that point on, you won't want to hit pause.
One of the young football stars featured in this project is a South African girl, Londiwe Ngwane, who hails from Johannesburg. Londiwe plays right-wing for the Blue Birds Ladies team, and grew up in Alexandra - a place that her aunt, Truly, describes as one that was difficult to raise a girl child in.
"I think football helped her stay away from the streets," Truly expresses in the film.
What Londiwe's aunt and mother share about how football has essentially saved the lives of the girls in their community, is echoed throughout the documentary - from Accra all the way to Kiltepe.
