Beauty, career and wellness: our top 10 podcast picks to try

Many of us have those tasks that keep us occupied but not enough from keeping our minds from wandering. These tasks could come in pockets of 30 minutes, an hour or three hours and here’s where podcasts come in.

They’re accessible and great to keep you company as you complete your daily tasks. So why not switch up your music playlist with something new to fill your ears: either riveting audio storytelling or perhaps an intellectually stimulating conversation to keep you entertained.

Life Things Podcast

This title is as self-explanatory as it gets, the podcast provides a window into some of South Africa’s ingenious entrepreneurial and creative minds. The hosts, Thithi Nteta and Keagan Carling, interview women from various disciplines to talk about their careers, greatest challenges and other 'life things'. Cheeky Natives

Alibi

This is South Africa’s answer to Serial, the very popular U.S. investigative journalism podcast. Produced by journalist and author Paul McNally, Alibi follows the story of Anthony de Vries, a man who has been in prison for 17 years for murders he says he didn’t commit.

The story unfolds over eight episodes and involves cash-in-transit robberies, car chases and apartheid cops. The timeline of the events starts in 1994.

Justice Denied

If you have a special interest in this kind of investigative journalism content News 24’s Justice Denied podcast series, a production in collaboration with the Wits Justice Project. Narrated by Jerusha Sukhdeo-Raath, the special project series uncovers stories of four people who were sentenced to life in prison for crimes they didn’t commit.

Hosted by PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman, the show was launched in 2014 and doesn’t just tell stories of technology, but stories of humanity too. It’s very interesting and the topics and guests range from the inventor of the pop-up ad to an episode about LSD.
