“When women are free to thrive, they bring national stability, as well as more jobs and economic growth. Expanding women’s economic participation has the potential to boost global economic output by an additional $12 trillion by 2025.” Ivanka told Wall Street Journal.

According to Fortune, the women empowerment programme which is called Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative will be made possible with USAID as well as private company investors such as UPS and Walmart.

The main aim of the "first-ever whole-of-government" project is to reach 50 million women across the world and help them achieve social and economical stability.

The goal according to the Women's Global Development and Prosperity initiative website is to "increase women’s global labour force participation and advancement in the workplace by providing women with quality education, training, and support, so they can secure and thrive in well-paying jobs in their local economies."

UN Women reports that "In 40% of economies, women’s early stage entrepreneurial activity is half or less than half of that of men’s".

Among other reasons why the initiative began is to create a balance of economic contributions from both men and women to equalise the scale which is currently highly out of balance.

The website promises to provide women with more access to entrepreneurial opportunities as well as an increase in capital to create more job opportunities and move away from no income and low income jobs such as crop yielding and caring for children and basically maintaining households.

According to UN Women, "women bear disproportionate responsibility for unpaid care and domestic work. They also tend to spend around 2.5 times more time on unpaid care and domestic work than men. The amount of time devoted to unpaid care work is negatively correlated with female labour force participation."

Proving why, if successfully executed, this initiative could help to change such imbalances not only for South African women but for women in developing countries across the globe.
