Friends enjoying an evening out.

Remember when DJ Zinhle and Pearl Thusi, took our Instagram feeds by storm last year when they posted pictures of themselves in matching outfits, attending events and going on lunch dates? And let's not forget that at some point they moved in together and seemed to be living the happiest life ever according to TimesLive. #Squadgoals

And let's not forget model BFFs Kendal Jenner and Gigi Hadid who not only get to work together sometimes but travel the world together as well. The friends even support each other on social media and are not afraid of sharing silly pictures on their Instagram pages to share their love.

Looking at these celebs BFFs, it may feel like fun but it looks very expensive. This is not to say that their friendship is dependent on money but there can sometimes be some pressure to keep up with the Khambules in terms of keeping the friendship alive.

I recently came across a post on an anonymous Facebook page forum that said, "My issue with having friends is that with friends you have to go out on lunch dates, dinner dates and clubbing and i can't afford all that." [sic]

It was funny at first and then I realised that there are a lot more people who feel that having friends can cost more they can afford. When you consider what it takes for you and your friends to hang out and have a good time - the going out, planning trips, self care (as a group) it can seem a bit too much.

According to an article by an online publication named Closer, friendships come with a hefty price tag. The article, which is based on a study in the UK found that the "average friendship lasting 20 years will set you back £7,910 (R 138 494)." The research was conducted by TopCashback,co.uk and they found that we often spend money the most amount of money on milestone occasions such as birthdays, weddings, baby showers and etc. But in between those milestone occasions we also spend money just to hang out, catch up and have fun with our friends which can be quite costly.

It really doesn't have to be. And you never want to look at your friendship in terms of monetary value or spend.
