Sometimes it's necessary to let go and just be

accreditation

In December, I had my family over. We cooked, chatted, went through very old family albums and even played board games. We didn’t worry about anything except the noise escaping through the windows of my place.

We didn’t stress about the usual things as we normally do or talk current affairs or economy. We were just…chilled. One of my closest friends, who passed away a few years ago, would always say to me “Just Be!” and at that time in December we did exactly that – Just Be!

I’ve always been a person who just could not BE and if anything went wrong I would crumble.  Fun wasn’t something I prioritised or even thought of.

Psychologists have found a new method to help adults cope with stress by reintroducing colouring books and crayons back into their lives.

If I did choose to have fun on the odd occasion, I would suddenly be interrupted by the thought of a work deadline.

Many of us have lost touch with our inner child. We don’t know how to lose ourselves in the moment or laugh until our stomachs hurt anymore because adulating comes with chaos, deadlines and schedules.

We do however have the power to change how we spend our time.

I read an article about how psychologists have found a new method to help adults cope with stress by reintroducing colouring books and crayons back into their lives.

And if you're convinced, you can start colouring in here.

This is therapeutic because it takes one back to a time when they were happy and carefree.

I’m still learning how to get in touch with this period of my life again, so thanks to Snapchat, I’ve taken to creating funny pictures on my phone. Almost like scrapbooking but on an app because as a child I loved dressing up and making things look pretty.

Soon it will become ingrained in us how important it is to just let go of stress sometimes.

I also have plans of getting my bff’s to FaceTime me instead of texting just so we can share experiences, show each other the places we visit or what we are cooking. The quirkier the better.

Maybe Snapchat and FaceTime won’t be around forever, but at least for now these apps are helping me unwind after a long day at work and spending hours in traffic.

If we actually start scheduling more time out, soon it will become ingrained in us how important it is to just let go of stress sometimes.

Perhaps it’s time to let your inner child speak louder than your adult voice and start figuring out what the word “fun” means to you.
