Janelle Monae identifies as non-binary: 'I do feel like I am an experience, I am on self-discovery'

In a recent Twitter post, singer and actress Janelle Monae seemingly revealed that she identifies as non-binary.

The ever so stylish singer, retweeted a GIFof Stevonnie, a non-binary character from ‘Steven Universe’, with the caption, “are you a boy or girl? I’m an experience”.

The post additionally read, “There is absolutely nothing better than living outside the gender binary.”

In her retweet to the post, Janelle added “#IAmNonbinary. Although the star did not provide further information, she did recently address the topic at a press panel for her show, ‘Homecoming’. During the panel, she talked about “labels” and how she doesn’t want to live her life in a binary way.

“I’ve always tried to get rid of all those things – labels – and work on my journey, whenever that may be. I do feel like I am an experience, I am on self-discovery, and I just want to continue to show love to everyone who continues to live outside the binary” she told Variety.
