On the eve of the fourth anniversary of her dad’s death, Chastity Patterson, from Arkansas in the US, sent him a lengthy SMS – something she’d done every day over the years to keep him up to date with her life, Daily Mail reports.
The 23-year-old, who’d never received a response from the number, was left in complete shock when a man who’d lost his daughter in a horrific car crash in 2014 responded.
Chastity shared the tear-jerking experience on Facebook with her friends with screenshots of the SMS, The Sun reports.
“Hey Dad, it’s ME. Tomorrow’s going to be a tough day again!” the message from Chastity to her father read. She wrote about how it’s been four years since his passing and that she missed him.
“. . . but I’m sure you know since I tell you all the time,” Chastity wrote, before adding how she’d beat cancer and had started to take better care of herself.
Chastity continues to tell her late father the ups and downs she’d experienced, including meeting someone special.
She concludes the heartfelt message by apologising to her dad for not being there for him.
Then a man named Brad responded to Chastity’s SMS, sympathising with her loss and saying he’d lost his daughter too, FoxNews reports.
“I’ve watched you grow and go through more than anyone. I’ve wanted to text you back for years, but didn’t want to break your heart.
“I’m very proud of you!”
Chastity shared the message on Facebook with the caption: “I text my dad every day to let him know how my day goes, for the past four years! Today was my sign that everything’s okay and I can let him rest!”
