10 Beauty tips every woman needs

As women we try to manage a career, a family and a social life while trying to look great at the same time. Although we love to spoil ourselves with expensive spa luxury treatments, this isn’t always practical – especially since we are trying to budget.

Here are some tips that won’t burn a hole in your pocket but will help you look your best.

Hair

Avoid overly greasy hair as a way to keep your skin in top shape

Don’t apply conditioner straight to your roots if your hair is prone to oiliness. Rather apply it to your tips and work your way up the strand.

Another handy tip is to rinse your hair with cold or lukewarm water to lock in moisture and straighten your follicles. It really works!

Prolong your hair colour

When you have invested time and money into changing your hair colour, prevent dye from fading by deep conditioning your locks once a month.

It means fewer trips to the hairdresser to top up the vibrancy of your locks.

Camouflage split ends

Try to apply a generous amount of split ending cream or repair moisturiser to the most affected areas of your mane before flat ironing or blow drying.

Also, cover your hair with a silky textured scarf to flatten unwanted static.

Skin

Stop buying expensive oils to avoid dry skin

Tip: After a shower or swim always make sure to moisturise.

Water washes away your skin’s natural oils silly, so try and lock in that lost moisture at all times.

Go away dark armpits!

Instead of investing in ‘miracle’ cream that promises awesome results, a clever way to make sure your don’t increase the chances of your underarms turning dark is to stand a few minutes under the shower so that the hair softens before you shave.

Dry out pimples

What I have learnt through my tortured pizza-faced teen years is to dab toothpaste onto my pimples to dry them out. If you’re not a fan of having Colgate on your face, try tea-tree oil instead.

Nails

You don’t need nail polish remover to get rid of old nail polish

If you have just run out of remover, don’t fret. Simply apply a clear top coat over the spoilt polish and remove straight after with a cotton ball.

The top coat loosens the cracked old nail polish for easy removal. Smart, eh?

Use eye cream on your cuticles

Cure your dry cuticles by applying eye cream around your nail bed. And, whatever you do, don’t clip cuticles with a nail clipper; this is a sure way for them to grow back thicker.

Make-up

Clean your make-up tools

Unhygienic make-up tools are a breeding ground for bacteria. Whether your favourite item is an ear bud, an eyeliner brush or a powder brush, clean them by laying them in hot water to loosen old residue.

Replace old make-up

As I have mentioned before, old products cause bacteria. It would be in your best interest to replace certain make-up products every month or so to avoid skin problems.
