Cleaning your face, and ridding it of all dirt and make-up, should be your number one priority when it comes to skincare. Yes, it’s even more important than moisturising. Just think of it this way: you can’t jolly well slap a R1000 moisturiser on top of layers of dirt, now can you? All you'll get is clogged pores for days.
Finding the right cleanser can be tricky, as some skins get really irritated by soapy formulas, while others find oil-based cleansers too greasy and tough on the eyes.
Last week, the Women24 team tested a few of the latest facial cleansing products that was recently made available at your nearest Clicks and Dis-Chem stores.
We loved them all, and here’s why:
Vichy Purete Thermale Beautifying Cleansing Micellar Oil
“Ever since I tried Lipidol’s oil-based face wash for the first time, I converted solidly to oily cleansers. But I must say, the Vichy’s Purete Thermale Beautifying Cleansing Micellar Oil is even better. Cleansing your face should not only be an essential part of life, but it can also be pleasurable. And this product is truly a joy to use every night before I hit the hay. Not only does it rid the skin of impurities, dead skin cells, make-up (yes, even waterproof mascara!), pollution and sebum excess; but it improves hydration and softness of skin. The oil transforms into a delicate milk and rinses off easily. It’s non greasy and great for dehydrated and sensitive skin. Obsessed.” - Marisa Crous, fashion and beauty editor.
Vichy Purete Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel
"You know that feeling you get once you’ve had your first few sips of coffee in the morning? That's what Vichy’s latest fresh cleansing gel feels like on your skin. Yes, this delightful product is like coffee for your skin. Smooth, with an effect that is refreshing, revitalising and moisturising. This cleansing gel is also very soothing for anyone who, like me, have very sensitive skin. What’s best is that you’re left with skin looking clear and feeling soft as can be the entire day long. Before this I’ve never used a Vichy product. After this, well, hello there Vichy, I think I’m in love with you! Go out and get this one – your skin will thank you." - Tammy February, books editor
Garnier Even and Matte Instant Radiance wash and scrub
“The Garnier Even and Matte Gentle Instant Radiance wash has made my skin dewy, smooth and well balanced in terms of moisture. It's not too oily or too dry. The lemon extracts worked wonders on my dehydrated skin, which is great especially going into this cold winter. The Garnier Even and Matte Instant Radiance Scrub smells unbelievable, and after using it, my skin felt tighter, fresher and more alive.” – Trudy Rozani, intern
Bioderma purifying cleansing foaming gel for combination or oily skin
"I loved this product for there reasons: I didn’t need to use too much every time I washed my face, the smell wasn’t overpowering, and it cleansed my skin without leaving it feeling dry. It’s also hypo-allergenic, so it was no problem for my sensitive skin and cleared up the oily patches on my face within two weeks of use without drying out the rest of my face. The product was gentle on my eyes, and, according to Bioderma’s website, it can be used as a shaving cream too. Now, isn’t that a diverse little product?" - Carmen Williams, entertainment editor
