Halle Berry and her former Canadian
boyfriend, Gabriel Aubrey are fighting over the state of their six-year old
daughter’s hair.
Why?
Gabriel wants it straight and a tad lighter, while Berry (and the judge who ruled
in the actress' favour) wants Nahla’s hair to remain naturally curled. Halle
Berry claims that Nahla’s hair colour has changed in the past year. She has
gone as far as plucking hairs from her daughter’s hairbrush, and getting it
tested for chemicals after Gabriel allegedly lightened Nahla’s locks.
The hair battle is only the tip of the ice berg though; Berry (who is also
mixed race) accused Gabriel of trying to make Nahla less African-American.
The couple is, possibly, unknowingly
altering Nahla’s sense of identity, as the idea of appearing more white and less
black or vice versa could potentially harm how the six-year old views herself.
