How To Avoid Thinning Hair

Many people start to experience thinning hair or balding as they get older. However, just because it is a natural process, it doesn't mean you have to let hair loss and thin hair take over your life. There are many steps you can take that will help reduce or eliminate hair loss.

Pick the right brush

Don't use bristle brushes on your hair. If you must use a brush, use a wide-toothed paddle brush and avoid bristle brushes completely, as these can yank out any weak hairs.

Your best bet is to use a wide-toothed comb to fix your hair. Since combs only have one line of teeth, they are much more gentle on your hair.

Also, let your hair dry wrapped in a towel or let it air-dry. When you rub your wet hair with a towel, you are tearing hair out of the follicle and breaking it.

Eat Healthy

Make sure you are eating a healthy diet that is full of vitamins and nutrients your body needs. There are many important nutrients that are responsible for keeping your skin and hair healthy, and if you are not consuming them, it could be one of the causes of your hair loss. Make sure you are consuming enough protein, iron, and vitamin E.

If for some reason you are unable to get these vitamins through healthy eating, get some vitamin supplements from the drugstore or health food store. If you are eating an unhealthy diet, you should change your habits. When poor nutrition causes hair loss, there is no telling what other important vitamins and nutrients you are missing.

Use the Right Products

The next thing you are going to want to do, and perhaps the most important step you'll take, is avoid shampoos and other hair products that contain sodium laureth sulfate. This substance is what makes shampoos lather really well, but it is not good for your hair and skin in the long term. Sodium laureth sulfate damages hair follicles, clogs pores, and dries out skin.

Use a "clean" shampoo and conditioner instead. A sodium laureth sulfate-free shampoo will cleanse your hair gently without causing any damage. Make sure all of your hair products, like hairspray and hair mousse, are sodium laureth sulfate free as well.

See Your Doctor

If your hair is thinning quickly and you are losing more than the average amount of hair each day, you should make an appointment with your doctor to see if there are any underlying causes of your hair loss. You might have a medical condition that needs to be treated.

Make an appointment with your physician to address your concerns, and once you find out the cause of your hair loss, your doctor will be able to prescribe treatments for you.

Thinning hair is a common burden for people during the aging process. If this is something that you are dealing with right now, you are not alone in your concerns. There are things you can do to combat this natural process. Follow the advice above to combat hair loss and keep your hair full and healthy.
