How can I prevent or curb breakage in natural hair?

African hair is the most fragile type; the more curly the hair, the more prone it is to breakage because the twists carry a fragility area. Here are a golden rules to prevent breakage:

Condition

Wash and condition your hair regularly to keep the hair soft and manageable.

Moisture

Use a daily moisturiser or product that will soften the hair and make it more flexible.  Also, remember to do regular deep treatments.

Soft detangling

Be very gentle and use a wide tooth-comb. Start from the ends, and go slowly step-by-step towards the roots. Don’t pull the hair, rather use a detangler.

Growth tips for natural hair

African hair grows very slowly and because of breakage, it’s hard to reach the length some women desire.

There are some products on the market which stimulate hair growth but you need to be patient as it takes time. However, the reality is that it cannot fight against hard and constant pulling of the hair that comes from  braids and extensions. You can also get length with the right maintenance and good regime.

This will strengthen the hair and make it manageable so that it doesn’t break when you comb. You can get length with patient and careful attention!

Is it safe to colour natural hair?

Yes, as long as the hair is in a healthy condition and you use a good quality brand. It is important to apply the product according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Don’t take shortcuts.
