If there’s one thing Christina Kreitel’s hair loss video achieved, it sent the message: You don’t choose the mom haircut, the mom haircut chooses you.

Christina, a hairstylist from Utah, shared a video taken in her salon in an effort to expose the extent of postpartum hair loss.

The internet couldn’t tear its eyes away from the grossly satisfying Instagram video of the hairstylist pulling out clumps of her client’s hair.

The video’s been viewed over three million times in seven days, according to Huffington Post.

This overwhelming type of hair loss affects about 50% of women who’ve been pregnant as a result of postpartum telogen effluvium.

It’s so common that there are various websites and forums dedicated to the topic. Christina is already used to dealing with this issue as a hairstylist.

Christina told Yahoo Lifestyle: “It’s become a running joke among my pregnant clients that after they give birth, I’ll have to pull out their hair. The client in the video had a baby four months ago and that’s when the hair loss started.”

Instead of expressing feelings of disgust, many people have posted relatable comments. Some saw the video as a type of reassurance.

“I’m so glad to see this. I was scared after four months postpartum — my hair shed so much I clogged the drain something serious. I’m glad my hair was thick to begin with, but my hairline in the front took the beating . . . At 11 months postpartum it's getting better . . . Damn kids. LOL. Gotta love ‘em.”

Fortunately, it’s not all bad news. The American Pregnancy Association notes the hair loss is only temporary.

The organisation advises consulting with a health care provider to ensure hormones are properly balanced; avoiding stress-inducing styles, like tight ponytails, braids and weaves; avoiding fine-tooth combs and heat styling; and eating a vitamin- and antioxidant-rich diet, which may help encourage hair growth.
