Hot summer hair!

accreditation
Hi girls

I've just got back from Clicks at the Waterfront where I picked up the most fabulous new hairdryer. (My old one, which was admittedly wretched in that it was tiny and took forever to give you a proper blow out, finally shuffled off its mortal coil… Still, I was emotionally attached to it, having had it for more than ten years. The poor thing had faithfully stood by my side through both good and bad hair days, the latter of which included more dreadful self-inflicted fringes than I care to remember…)

But moving on, I'm proud to tell you I now own a fabulous Toni&Guy 2000 Watt Tourmaline Hairdryer that could blow a car off the bloody M3. It's worth five hundred buckaroos, but I only paid a mere R199,99 – and you can too if you get on down to the Clicks Electrical Sale before the end of the month.

Now, let's talk product!

Yardley has launched a new range for acne-prone skin called Yardley Oatmeal Spot Clear. Endorsed by a dermatologist, it's clinically approved to effectively fight the four causes of spots and blackheads and contains a new, patented ingredient called 'AC.NET'.

Now at first, I thought AC.NET was just some fancy pants name they'd made up for marketing purposes. (Sometimes companies dream up names of things to make their products sound a bit more exciting. For example, a wrinkle cream might say, 'now with BOTfirm', to make you think it contains something that might have the same effect as, say, Botox…)

As it turns out, however, AC.NET is actually a regte egte ingredient (you'll find it in a few other spot creams too) and contains skin calming acids that help fight excessive oiliness and prevent a build up of pore-clogging skin cells. The range, which includes a Deep Pore Wash, Spot Preventing Moisturiser, Blackhead Treatment and Spot Buster also makes use of other proven, zit-zapping ingredients like tea tree oil and is priced from between R49,95 and R64,95. Keep an eye out for it at selected Clicks, Foschini, Edgars and Dischem outlets as of the end of this month.

Otherwise, it rained hair products this week. Aside from the Schwarzkopf Gliss Shea Cashmere Shampoo and Conditioner I got to test for the Beauty Reviews page, I was also given Vo5's new Refreshingly Pure Elixir Shampoo and Conditioner. Developed for normal to fine hair that turns greasy fast, it contains a blend of five non-greasy natural oils as opposed to silicones, to help you keep your hair purified and 'naturally bouncy'.

I was keen to give this a bash as I have super-fine hair that needs a good wash every single day. Having used it a few times, I can tell you it does a very thorough job of cleansing and, due to seriously high dose of peppermint leaf extract, you'll feel your scalp tingling within minutes of massaging it in. Alas, as my hair also needs a bit of 'damage control' due to the fact that I colour it, the conditioner left my locks a bit difficult to comb. Still, I'll be holding onto it as I reckon it makes for a great 'Sunday shampoo' in that it's an awesome clarifier. And I suspect that if your hair's in top nick and needs less TLC than mine, it could well be just the thing for a daily, invigorating wash.

Something else that crossed my desk? Revlon's new Pedi-EXPERT foot file, R150. Arriving just in time for strappy sandal season, it looks like a cutesy pink sunglasses case, but really, it contains everything you need to keep your heels in check. Think a stainless steel micro-file, finishing file, nail clipper and nail file. (According to the girls on www.makeupalley.com, the Pedi-EXPERT blows Homemark's PedEgg out of the water and has a killer independent review rating of 4.4 out of 5… You can read the rave reviews over here.)

To use it, simply slide the micro-file across the roughest part of your heel. (Any horrid skin shavings fall into a little compartment below. When you're done, you're can open it up and toss them away into a bin). After you've had a lekker scour, finish up your foot with the 'finishing file' affixed to the bottom and bob's your uncle. If you're good with a paint brush, you can now send your pedi-gal packing! Look out for this little gem in-store as of early September. His blades have a life-time guarantee!

Right, now I'm off to play with my new hair dryer. Did I tell you it has a digital display? Oooh…

See you at the beauty counters!

Love, love

Leigh
