Kim Kardashian recently revealed shaving cream is her top tip on how to remove make-up stains from an outfit, and we spoke to some of the U.K.’s top make-up artists for their tips on how to clean unsightly cosmetics marks from a look.
“One way to get rid of make-up stains is by using plain dish soap,” Denise Rabor, International Make-up Artist and Founder of WOW Beauty, told Cover Media.
“Apply some dish soap onto the stain so that it’s fully covered, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with hot water. Repeat until all make-up is removed. As well as foundation, dish soap is also great for getting rid of lipstick and mascara stains on clothes.”
Denise is also a fan of the shaving cream remedy, adding: “Leave the shaving cream to sit on the stain for a few minutes and then give it a good rub into the stain and rinse with cold water. Repeat this technique but finish by rinsing with hot water instead of cold and the stain should have disappeared.”
For award-winning make-up artist Stacey Whittaker, it’s important to consider what caused the stain, as “powder and liquid stains react differently”.
“For powder make-up stains, blow away any excess powder before rubbing it and then dab a small amount of make-up remover or micellar water on a cotton ball onto the stain,” she said. “Try to do this immediately after the stain has been caused as the longer it is on there, the less likely it is to come out easily.”
Or for liquid stains, Stacey recommends using washing up liquid.
“Gently dab the stain with warm water and soap, if it doesn’t budge you can scrub it with a dish brush or even a toothbrush and then pop it in the washing machine,” she added.
