Becoming a duchess in the British royal house informed many of Meghan Markle’s fashion and beauty choices, and understandably, stepping down from this public role has its own effect. We see this most during her ‘final’ tour as a senior member of the royal family.
At the beginning of this year Meghan and her husband, just Harry, announced their decision to lead more private lives after having previously shared their experience of the “human cost” the British press has inflicted on Meghan with its “relentless propaganda”.
As a member of the royal family, Meghan had to adhere to certain codes by the British monarchy in the way she presented herself. Princess Diana made pushing the rule boundaries popular - with this precedent, Meghan has done the same in various ways. However, on the latest tour to London, the soon-to-be former duchess made bold statements with her makeup looks.
The royal house is notoriously known for imposing dress codes such as wearing stockings and prioritising skirts over pants on its duchesses. Natural makeup is included in how these members are expected to present themselves.
According to Cosmopolitan U.S., royal women are expected to wear natural-looking makeup. We’ve seen plenty of these looks from Meghan since she became a member of the royal family. The former duchess attended public events in understated makeup looks with natural tones.
On her final engagements as one of the senior members of the royal family, Meghan pushed the envelope on the royal rules regarding makeup, as seen above.
Meghan made her first royal appearance in some time when she attended The Endeavour Fund Awards in London. This was the first look that was starkly outside the royal ‘beauty rules’. She arrived wearing a bronzed look with strong eyeliner and a deep red glossy colour, the type of look we haven’t seen from her since her days as an actress.
While stirring international conversation with yet another umbrella moment with Prince Harry and with the head-to-toe red look she wore to the Mountbatten Festival of Music at Royal Albert Hall wrapped up the tour in an unexpected beauty statement.
If you caught the moments when Meghan looked down you’d spot the metallic blue eye look she wore at the Commonwealth Day Service in London, a significant change from her nude-coloured makeup she usually wore as a duchess.
The former Hollywood star will likely once again experiment with her beauty looks now that she will lead an independent life from the royal house.
