Who can forget those early 2000s days when a matte face and a glossy pout were the ultimate beauty look? Add a side-swept fringe and you were digi cam ready.
Fast forward to 2018, and glossy lips (and now eyelids too) are all the rage again. Newby Hands, beauty director at Net-a-Porter, told Business of Fashion that the gloss trend is all part of the appeal of looking youthful and healthy. "From glowing complexions to shiny hair, glossy lips complete this trend that results in a healthy, radiant and hydrated look," Hands told BoF.
This is also perhaps why gloss eyeshadow is having a moment - for an overall radiant shine.

Not at all.
According to BoF, lipstick is still dominating the market in terms of sales. However, lip gloss sales have skyrocketed to $2.94 billion (over R40 billion) since 2014.
It's safe to say that Instagram can attest to these stats, as we've seen some of our favourite glistening selfies and portraits there throughout 2018. Thanks, Rihanna.
