With the first major red carpet (Golden Globes) of 2019 already behind us, we have a pretty clear idea of what the leading hair and makeup trends of 2019 will be.

The beauty takeaways we nabbed from the Golden Globes red carpet a few days ago were that any blue makeup is going to have a moment all throughout 2019, nude lips are back, when it comes to eyebrows - less will once again be more, and sometimes eyeshadow is for more than just your eyelids.

Wait, that just kind of described 'mom makeup' essentials. Well if that's what celebrity makeup artists are playing around with, then who are we not to comply, right?

And by the looks of things, Instaglam makeup is slowly getting replaced by effortless understated makeup. Now we can take half an hour off the time it takes to get ready. More chances to hit that snooze button!

No wait, our NY resolution was to wake up early to fit in time to meditate and get a packed lunch ready.

Well, without wasting the extra half-hour the beauty gods have gracefully added to your day, here are the five hair and makeup trends we're dipping our brushes in this year:

Beauty blues

Blue lips, blue lids, blue lashes and blue hair will be the ultimate statements to make at evening soirees, red carpets, music events and dates in 2019. Beauty brands have been hinting at this since late last year.

Lady Gaga and Lupita Nyong'o clearly took note:

Bob's your aunty

2018 gave us the revival of cornrows, but when I saw veteran actresses Regina King, Naomi Watts and Regina Hall's sleek immaculate bobs on the New York Film Critics Circle Awards red carpet, I knew a bob is the hairstyle I have to jump on as soon as my braids have run their fast-approaching course.

The bob haircut has remained in the hair trends cycle since it cemented its comeback circa 2013. It's universal, as it suits every face shape and hair type. Alternatively, if chopping your tresses isn't part of your plans, then invest in a bob wig.

Beyond bold

Beauty's gone avante garde and I'm not talking about the runway or a magazine editorial. Over-the-top makeup looks are no longer just for themed parties and music festivals because in 2019, they're infiltrating other events on our social calendars too.

Eyeshadow's gone a little louder and fuller.

Send nudes

Of course, red lipstick is still as classic as the crisp white shirt, but 2019 also seems to be the year nude lips with just a touch of gloss will be a beauty go-to. After all, if your eyes are going to be all the talking, then maybe it is a good idea that your lips say less.

Just browsing

As makeup goes back to basics in 2019, your brow routine will be just as relaxed as you are when you're well... just browsing. No more elaborate brow kits and concealer to perfect that arch that makes you look just the right kind of surprised.

For natural-looking brows, mascara is all you need and shaping them is completely up to you.

Just another reason we're grateful RiRi paused her music career to be a beauty mogul.

If your natural eyebrows grow out in an ungovernable manner, you could save up for a microblading appointment  for semi-permanent hairstroke eyebrows.
