The new 'Normal Barbie' comes with cellulite and acne stick-ons

accreditation
Yesterday, we heard about the Computer Engineer Barbie disaster; and today we are talking "Normal Barbie".

According to Time magazine, graphic designer-turned-toy-maker, Nickolay Lamm created the Lammily doll as a healthy alternative to the traditional Barbie.

The doll differs from Barbie in that she has the measurements of the "average" 19-year-old girl, has brown hair and comes with a variety of "flaws" in the form of stickers.

You can now make your doll more 'real' than ever, adding acne, cellulite, tattoos, dirt stains, freckles and more.

This doll has been received with mixed emotions, with many praising the product, while others labelled it as revolting. I tend to agree with the view of The Gloss's Hayley Hoover.

She notes that while the thought of customising a doll, adding on imperfections sounds like fun; she notes that this doll might not be the ideal way to get young girls to love their bodies. She says:

"I feel like you could accomplish this goal of celebrating real women’s bodies by making a line of dolls with different shapes, skin colors, and imperfections already printed on them. Make some with acne scars. Make some with cellulite bumps on their thighs. Make some with cesarean scars, if you really want to. Make them in a million different shades and with a bunch of different hair textures. I don’t really see young girls growing to accept the beauty and diversity of womanhood if we’re still just telling them that people’s bodies start off thin and white and clean and pretty until they collect various marks and scars. It just strikes me as… an odd way to go about it."

Make dolls in all different shapes, sizes, skin tones, hair colours/textures and there you go. Boom! Just be representative of all women and not only those who have perfectly smooth skin, bums and blonde tresses.

We also love the below video, created by Lamm to show the dangers of Photoshop, even in the world of dolls:
