SA Teen takes the crown

accreditation
The Miss World 2003 was held at the Hotel Green Gold of Guayaquil in Ecuador, South America. Kaylan, a 15-year-old Grade 10 Norkem Park High School pupil vied for the title with contenstants from 28 other countries.

According to a story from Beeld, Kaylan has been taking modelling classes since the age of nine has won no less than 98 beauty titles in the two years since she started competing in beauty pageants.

Last year she came second in the New Faces competition in Milan, Italy and she still has to claim her prize of a five week modelling course in Milan. Although she was the youngest of the 36 contestants - most were 18 and 19 years old - Kaylan, according to her mother, displayed nerves of steel.

But the 15-year-old beauty has shown that she is an all-rounder. She was one of the South African pupils who chatted to Shuttleworth during his space journey last year and she has dreams to become an astronomer. The 15-year-old beauty is also a fully-qualified cricket umpire and score-keeper.

Women24 had a quick chat to Vivienne Bruwer, Kaylan's proud mom who was understandably overjoyed with her daughter's success. "Whatever Kaylan dreams, she makes a reality', she said.

The competition of Miss Teen World competition has become of traditional and exclusive to Ecuador, and is organized by Queen of Ecuador Inc, a company that hosts a number of fringe beauty pageants annually.

Mónica Uribe or Colombia was crowned Miss Teen South America, Gislana González of Panama First Finalist, Mariette González of El Salvador Second Finalist, Susy Gaul of Honduras Third Finalist, and Daniela Villacrés of Ecuador Fourth Finalist. Considering the competition was largely from South American countries, the South African teen has done extremely well. Add to that the fact that she's the youngest contestant of all, and one has to admit that we've got a star in the making. But for now, Kaylan is back at school completing her studies before she takes on the whole wide world.
