Rob Kardashain’s ex-fiancé, Blac Chyna whose real name is Angela Renée White is facing major backlash from social media users for cashing in on a controversial skin lightening product which she alleges she’s been using for years to treat her hyperpigmentation, according to TMZ.
Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream, as it is known is a skin lightening serum which comes in a Swarovski crystal-studded jar and selling for a whopping $250 (R 3 503.84).
“Lagos Nigeria, join me at the first official launch of my face cream this Sunday November 25th at the Whitenicious store from 1-5PM. Everyone is invited,” she captioned the post.

Many Twitter users were left unimpressed by Chyna’s new business venture with one tweep even describing it as a, “cancer cream”

Chyna is not the only one promoting the lightening cream endorsement deal which will be launched in Nigeria. African pop star Dencia has in the past also collaborated with the brand.
Over the years skin whitening creams have gained major popularity especially in South Asia and West Africa. According to a BBC study in 2013 one in three South African women were bleaching their skin.
These skin lightening creams contain harmful skin-lightening chemicals known as hydroquinone and glutathione which have been banned in countries such as the Ivory Coast but despite efforts to prohibit the importation of these products, they are still widely used throughout Africa.

Speaking to W24, Local dermatologist, Dr. Nomphelo Gantsho said that not many women are unaware of the detrimental health side effects that skin bleaching comes with.
“Long term chances of developing skin cancer, glutathione strongly inhibits the production of melanin that is a dark pigmentation protecting a person’s body from the harmful UV rays from the sun.”
