Meet the artist who wants to show that stretch marks are a sign of resilience and strength.
Zelda started the Instagram page, Strength Marks – which was inspired by the activism and art of actresses Jameela Jamil and Lena Dunham, and Pakistani glitter artist Sara Shakeel – in a bid to show that stretch marks are beautiful.
The influencer started photographing friends and family and decorated their stretch marks with biodegradable glitter, Glamour reports.
Zelda then went on to ask them a few candid questions in order to fully understand their journey of self-discovery and body positivity.
“I’ve noticed that self-love doesn’t have to be this big, extravagant spa day and doesn't have to be Instagrammed to count. It’s as simple as looking in the mirror and noticing yourself,” one participant said.
“I was always taught that a beautiful body was a perfect one. But now I know there’s no such thing as a perfect body and I’m learning to embrace my strength marks because they’re a part of me and my journey,” another participant said.
On her website, Zelda revealed that she hopes her project will break social norms and dismiss unrealistic beauty standards.
“The project has welcomed a community of people driven to dispel societal beauty standards and encourage self-confidence!” she wrote.
