So you’ve just agreed to marry your other half after a spectacular New Year proposal and spent the happiest 
day of your life together, but before you settle down into married life, there is lots of wedding planning to be 
done.

 It can become slightly overwhelming when you know there is so much to do and you’re not sure where to
 start.

However, this simple guide gives you a straight-forward idea of what to do once you are ready to start 
thinking about your wedding, and guides you through the first baby steps of wedding planning before you jump 
into the deep end.

Find inspiration

Before you start purchasing things, make sure you know what you are looking for. You should consider themes, colour schemes and a basic idea of how much money you want to spend overall.

Find a folder and collect pictures of things you like the look of.

Collect cut outs from magazines or print off pictures of wedding dresses, centrepieces and all things wedding related that inspire you, and put them all together in your folder so you have a clear idea of what kind of wedding will be perfect for you.

Work out a budget

Once you’ve got a taste for what your ideal wedding will look like, you need to work out a suitable budget you can base it around.

Remember that you need to be realistic. It’s no good dreaming up a fairy-tale wedding if you don’t have the money in your balance to support it.

 Ask yourself what can you actually afford. This is an important subject you need to discuss with your partner, and make sure you both come to a mutual agreement on how much you are willing to spend together. 

Make a guest list

Once everyone knows you’re engaged, people will start wondering who is and isn’t invited. You’ll need to figure out how many people you think you’ll be able to afford in accordance with your budget.

The more people you invite, the more expensive your wedding will become. Remember, making the guest list is an important part of your wedding that should be agreed on between you and your partner.

You may have to make compromises and decisions, but those you invite should be loved ones you both want to share your special day with. 


Plan to plan

If desirable, hire a planner to help you plan the next stages of your wedding. This will include; your venue, your dates, photography, flowers, caterers, bands and so on.

 A wedding planner will have lots of contacts that will help you plan these steps, and they will be there to help you run through your planning and wedding smoothly and successfully.

 However, if you wish to save money and plan the next stages alone, decide how much you will want to spend on each slice of your day, such as your venue. Make sure everything adds up and your budget doesn’t overflow.
