This is the question an unknown bride-to-be is grappling with after one of her bridesmaids tried to sabotage her wedding. The anonymous woman went on Mamamia, a website that centres on talking points for women, and explained the unexpected betrayal by her bridesmaid.
The bride-to-be had spent weeks searching for the perfect wedding dress for her big day in May next year and finally found the dress of her dreams last weekend. As with every other trip, her bridal party accompanied her on her visit to the umpteenth wedding boutique.
“I was ecstatic and thrilled that I’d finally found my gown. I took my bridal party out for lunch afterwards to celebrate and we had a really lovely afternoon together,” the woman explains, adding that she put down a 50% deposit on the dress, as required by the boutique.
But the excitement was short-lived because when she arrived home, she received an upsetting phone call.
“Sandra [one of the bridesmaids] informed me that another bridesmaid, Tanya, who’s a close friend of mine from school, had shared a picture of me in the wedding dress I purchased on her Instagram account,” she writes.
She hadn’t even known that the picture had been taken in the first place, much less shared on Instagram, and immediately called Tanya.
“I was hopping in and out of dresses so frequently during the fittings that I wasn’t really paying attention to what was going on around me. I assumed Tanya was simply on her phone, I didn’t know she was snapping pictures.”
She kindly asked Tanya to remove the picture – but she refused and blocked the bride-to-be on all of her social media accounts.
“Now a picture of me in my wedding dress is on the internet more than eight months before my wedding day. It makes me feel sick and as though the magic had been taken away and ruined.
“I’m now considering if I need to buy a new dress but I’ve already paid a $3 000 (about R40 600) deposit and really can’t afford to.”
And as for the situation between her and Tanya?
“The vibe in the bridal party is feeling really strange. I’ve considered asking Tanya to no longer be in my bridal party, but I feel like that may only cause more issues.
“Should I tell her how I feel or just suck it up and keep quiet?”
