Most brides are grateful to have friends surrounding them as they walk down the aisle on their wedding day. But it was a different story for this bride who seems to have taken things too far and ended up chasing her bridesmaids away.
No one wants to spend a fortune on a wedding that isn't even theirs.
Her.ie reported on a bride who, instead of being in a celebratory mood with her friends, became calculative when she required all her friends to fork out $3 259 (about R47 000) as a way of thanking her for inviting her to the wedding.
When her friends complained about how much the wedding cost, she told them she was the only one who mattered as it was her special day.
Her wedding guests were so shocked and upset that one of them shared details of her bizzare behaviour in a now-deleted post on Reddit.
"First of all, she had an engagement party to kick-off what is to be 10 months of constant celebrations leading up to the big day,” shared the guest.
"This party was complete with personalized wine bottles for each of her selected MOH [maid of honour] and bridesmaids. This was her way of choosing/announcing her attendants! You had to feel bad for the girls who were hurt they weren't selected for the honour.”
“Once she was able to find the perfect ensemble for her day, they now were required to go shopping for their dresses, shoes and accessories with her.”
For her bridal party, the bride-to-be planned a week-long event - which included renting a luxurious house and limo rentals to go wine tasting for three days.
The bridesmaids were required to have professional hair and make-up done, the way the bride wanted.
All the requirements for the wedding and bridal party mounted up to $3 259 (about R47 000), an amount the bride said was the cost of the "honour of being at the wedding".
“It's at this point that her long-time best friend pipes up and starts to complain about how much this is costing. She's already [spent] $700 (about R10 000) just on the outfit,” says the guest.
"Fast-forward a few hours and Bridezilla kicks her out of the wedding (and the Napa trip obviously) and says she never wants to see her again.”
Right after the best friend decided to bail out, another bridesmaid decided to walk away too.
According to Brides, wedding etiquette expert, Gabriella Risatti says once bridesmaids accept the offer of accompanying the bride on her big day, they should be prepared to spend money in buying dresses, accessories, and shoes.
But if a member of the bridal party is unable to pay for the bridesmaid dress, the bride and groom should be able to help them out
Reddit users were furious at the bride-to-be's behaviour and they did not hold back in sharing how they felt.
One person wrote: "You’re asking people to do you the honour of standing by your side as you make an enormous leap of faith, not to spend a bunch of money to make you look and feel good.”
Someone else wrote: "Okay. She's an idiot. And self-centred. Why do people think that their wedding is a reason to ask people to spend money and do whatever they want? I just don't get it!"
