Reilly Jennings (28) and Amanda Wheeler (35) were preparing to tie the knot in October.
But because of the coronavirus pandemic they decided to get hitched as soon as possible, PEOPLE reports.
After Amanda had to close down her business due to the global widespread of Covid-19, the women opted to get their marriage licence at a courthouse, but when the marriage bureau was closed with immediate effect, they felt they were running out of options.
Taking to Instagram, Reilly shared a lengthy post in which she detailed what transpired when one of their friends, Matt Wilson, a licensed marriage officiant, offered to officiate their union.
“We said YES, finished our work meetings, walked down the street to his apartment and got married below his fourth-storey window as the neighbourhood looked on alongside 4 of our best friends,” Reilly wrote.
Reilly wore a white romper while Amanda was dressed in a casual white V-neck t-shirt, black jacket and dark jeans. The friends looked on from metres away to practise social distancing.
Speaking to E News, Reilly revealed that they met in 2013 in New York at a gym where they “sort of unexpectedly fell in love . . . and the rest is history”.
Reilly revealed they’d decided to get hitched amid the pandemic because they didn’t want to postpone their wedding.
“Who knows when things will be back to normal? We love each other so much and didn’t want to wait. Also … #insurance.”
