Mehmet Emin Gunes is the leader of the Umeyrat clan in the south-eastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa.
“I’m from the district of Mezra, I have been the mayor on two occasions as well as the village head,” he said.
According to local media, Mehmet has three wives, 24 children and more than 200 grandchildren.
His youngest son, Osman Gunes, married his bride Busra Yavuz at the plush ceremony.
Some 240 turkeys and a ton of rice and beans were reportedly served during the open-air reception.

During the celebration men and women danced separately and Mehmet’s children and grandchildren took part in a special performance of the traditional Turkish Halay dance.
However, not all traditions were observed and the common practice of shooting guns in the air was banned by Mehmet.
When asked if he knew the names of all his children, the clan leader said he didn’t know them all off by heart but could recall his kids’ names when he saw them in person.
“I want to thank all the guests that attended our wedding,” Mehmet said.
“This is a clan wedding and everybody is here. We’re a huge clan and our weddings are typically very beautiful.”
