The couple got engaged within two months after meeting on the Facebook page #ImStaying. They’d been planning on getting married in an intimate ceremony in September in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
But then the national lockdown was announced and since it started at midnight on 26 March, they’ve spent every minute of the day in each other’s company.
Waiting until September to get married suddenly felt like an eternity. So on Friday 24 April they had a wedding in the living room of their Pretoria home – remotely officiated by a pastor.
“It was my idea to get married now because we’d decided to get married in court as soon as everything opens up again. We didn’t want to wait any longer to get married,” Sinead says.
The couple connected in January when she commented on a post of Isaiah’s on the #ImStaying Facebook group. They hit it off immediately and on Valentine’s Day, 14 February, he popped the question.
Isaiah was the one to contact the pastor about the possibility of a virtual wedding and he agreed immediately.
“A friend donated a cake and we used our engagement decorations to set the tone a bit,” Sinead says.
“It was quite special. Though every girl wants a fairytale wedding but in my heart I knew the reason I’m marrying Isaiah isn’t to have a grand affair, but to be in a marriage with him – that’s the most important thing to me,” she adds.
So it didn’t bother her at all that she wore a dress she’d worn before and that they exchanged silicone rings.
“To finally call him my husband is the best thing ever,” Sinead says.
The couple are planning a special celebration with family and friends in December.
“But even if that doesn’t happen, we’re happy and blessed with what we have,” she says.
“We’re definitely planning a romantic weekend or night away to celebrate but with a husband like Isaiah, every day is a honeymoon,” she gushes.
Since they got engaged, Sinead has only been back to Pietermaritzburg once to get her stuff. She now calls Pretoria home.
They two have really enjoyed their lockdown together, spending the time cooking, baking, watching TV and generally having quality time together.
“The lockdown is an amazing test for our relationship and we’ve learned so much about each other,” she says.
Though she’s not working at the moment, Isaiah’s been working from home every day since lockdown started.
“It’s wonderful to be able to do so many things together in-between his meetings and workload. He makes time to spoil me and he’s the best husband a girl could ask for.”
