A young couple's awwww moment quickly turned sour. A young man got down on his knee to propose to his girlfriend in New York City, unfortunately, being obviously nervous and excited, the young man dropped the ring inside a drain.

What was meant to be one of their most memorable days quickly turned into the two trying to retrieve the fallen ring from the drain for almost two hours with no luck. What's worse is that the couple were only visiting New York from Britain.

After failed attempts to get the ring out of the drain the couple walked away sadly leaving the engagement ring behind.

Unbeknownst to the now engaged but ringless couple, the NYPD had been watching the entire thing from a camera placed near the drain that swallowed the ring and decided to step in and assist by sending special operations to retrieve the lost ring.

In less than an hour the ring was found and even cleaned for the couple, all that was left was finding the two to deliver the good news.

The NYPD posted the video and a picture of the ring on their Twitter page captioned "Wanted for dropping his fiancee's engagement ring @TimesSquare [...]".

Because social media is well... social media, the tweets went viral and it didn't take long for the couple, who were actually about to board a flight back to the United Kingdom, were found and the young bride-to-be was happily reunited with her engagement ring.

According to GoodThingsGuy, the man in the clip – John Brennan – had proposed to his girlfriend Daniella Anthony in Central Park a few hours earlier. He said that the ring was too big for her finger but she insisted on wearing it, that was when it fell inside the drain.

Lucky for them a friend of theirs had spotted the tweet and let them know immediately that the ring was recovered from the drain –and so the newly engaged couple were happy again.
